Lorena has over 7 years of experience as a spoken word performer, motivational and instructional speaker and artist in residence. In this capacity she has been the MN Slam! Champion, represented Minnesota at the Individual World Poetry Slam and the National Poetry Slam, taught children and adults in a variety of settings, and has spoken at conferences and large-scale events such as the Annual Great River Gathering: Celebrating Saint Paul on the Mississippi.
Her performances/lectures/presentations range from 3 to 90 minutes and can be tailored to suit a variety of different audiences, from kindergarten to university students to professional audiences. Materials can be forwarded for prior approval if necessary and Lorena can present in English, Spanish, or both languages.
Lorena has lectured at university podiums and rocked the mic on the performance stage. She has shared the stage with artists such as KRS-One and poets such as Jimmy Santiago Baca. Venues include the legendary Tia Chucha’s Café Cultural in Los Angeles, CA; the 7th St. Entry/ First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN; the Weisman Art Museum; Intermedia Arts; and the Loft Literary Center.
Recent high-profile events include a performance at the 2013 AWP Conference and Latino Poetry Now, sponsored by Notre Dame and Macalester College, fall 2012.
University poetry readings and performances include: University of St. Thomas, Macalester College, University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State University, Metropolitan State University, Hamline University, St. Olaf College, and Gustavus Adolphus College.
